  • Trust Act

Brazilian Immigrant Center

Trust Act: The Secure Community was approved in 2012 and under this new law, the local police worked together with ICE. Many immigrants when pulled over by the police were detained by ICE only because they were driving without a license. In opposition to the Secure Community, the Trust Act cancels the cooperation between local police and ICE, and if an immigrant is pulled over he/she cannot be detained by ICE for the sole reason of driving without a license.

The Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights: When the US Labor Laws were passed in the mid-1930s, domestic and farmer workers were left out mostly because those jobs were performed by African Americans. After almost 80 years, the State of Massachusetts approved the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights giving domestic workers the labor laws they so long deserved. The new laws will enforce minimum wage, overtime, among much more.

Safe Driving Bill: With the fail of the Federal Government to pass a comprehensive Immigration Reform, the Safe Driving Bill if passed it would allow undocumented immigrants living in the State of Massachusetts to get a valid driver’s license. if everyone is insured and licensed the roads will be safer for all.

Why is this important:

For the past 4 years, the Brazilian Immigrant Center, a nonprofit organization in Allston, MA has been fighting to improve the lives of millions of immigrants and the community as a whole. With determination, passion and incessantly love for the cause, BIC has been fully engaged with those bills, and was always a step ahead to make the State of Massachusetts and neighbors a better place for all the people. “The Brazilian Immigrant Center has as its main goal to fight for social and economic justice”.

ART GALLERY

The acclaimed Charlie Chaplin once stated, “The most important issue in the world can be simplified to the point where everyone can enjoy life and understand it. This is- or should be the highest form of Art.” It is with this inspirational thought that we invite our guests to visit the Art Gallery featured at the Fifth Brazilian Expo USA!! This year the Expo will feature several artists coming directly from Brazil, as well as other local artists! Two featured artists include: Marina Lisita from Massachusetts and Irene Nunes from New Jersey! They believe that art does not need to be studied to be understood, instead the viewer and artist should be searching to make a relationship between each other. Come, enjoy the breathtaking art and viewpoints of these renowned artists.

  MARINA LISITA

For Brazilian artist Marina Lisita, it began with two people in her life that challenged her to continue painting her great works of art. One of these inspirational individuals was the renown Jesco Von Putkamer a world known Anthropologist and photographer that recognized her unique art talent. She was commissioned by him to paint rare plants for him in the Amazon jungle for medical scientific studies. Adrian Cowell another world known figure, London film maker and movie director commissioned her to paint the natural habitate of the lush forest of the Brazilian Indian Natives showing and expressing their way of life for the world to see and enjoy on canvas. With her detail eye she was able to capture the essence of the Native Brazilian Indian people for the world to see and hopefully to get the world to help these people who are kind hearted and loving from not going into extinction with their way of life. She witnessed and saw the deforestation taking place and villagers being moved away from the only way of life that they knew that pre-dates uncountable thousand of years of culture and tradition. These great master pieces of art can be seen at art galleries and museums abroad. Too mention a few locations. Boston City Hall, United States. Museum of Anthropology. Goias, Brazil. She expressed vividly, that life is the greatest gift of all. To live it and experience it and she did just that with her paint brushes by painting numerous amount of collectable art works for the world to see beauty from the hands of the beholder; God the true artist of all and beyond are universe as we know it. With dazzling array of spectacular colors, she is truly a gift from the Almighty too mankind with her paint- ings. She stated with such passion about her works of art, that painting nature’s beauty on canvas allowed her to find such richness in the land and of its people with a stroke of her paint brushes.

From the time I was very young I loved Art.  John Adrian Cowell a London movie director and Gesco Von Puttkamer Photographer were the  two people that Inspired me  most, to express myself through my artistic abilities. Although I can see Beauty in all forms of ART, my favorite of all is painting Indians (Brazilian Native). I found them excellent ART subjects, because of their strong Tribal Values and Traditions. The way they take care of each other and Live Harmony in the Village. Even though they have suffered greatly, they are proud. I think to paint Indian, is to “Paint History”.
